Brian Brugger has been employed at WPS since 1986, starting in an entry-level position within the TRICARE/CHAMPUS claims processing area. He held various positions with increasing responsibility in the division while learning all aspects of the operations.
Brian was named senior vice president of the TRICARE Division in 2005, and he became executive vice president of the division in 2012. The division was renamed WPS Military and Veterans Health in 2015. He is responsible for all functions including financial results, quality assurance, claims processing, program integrity, contract compliance, and customer service.
In 2003, Brian was part of the management team responsible for the award of the Department of Defense’s first-ever TRICARE for Life contract administering TRICARE’s Medicare supplement on a national basis. In 2007, Brian was instrumental in leading the WPS team in the successful re-award of the contract to WPS. WPS consistently achieves over 98% satisfaction on the services received by TRICARE for Life beneficiaries.
Under Brian’s leadership, WPS Military and Veterans Health administers contracts for both the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs. WPS MVH administers two TRICARE contracts on a worldwide basis and three contracts for Veterans Affairs in 28 states. A team of approximately 700 employees in Wausau and Madison processes more than 54 million claims annually for more than 2 million beneficiaries.
Brian graduated from the Southwest Wisconsin Technical College with a degree in computer programming. He and his wife Becky have two sons. Brian spends much of his free time coaching youth sports and volunteering in youth programs.
He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army of Dane County.
