WPS helps homeless veterans with donations to Stand Down

MADISON, Wis.-Oct. 3, 2017—WPS employees and the WPS Charitable Foundation donated $6,400 and a dozen boxes of supplies to the Wayne D. Horner Memorial Stand Down organization, which benefits veterans who are experiencing homelessness.

WPS employees raised $1,400 for Stand Down through a WPS Government Health Administrators Healthy Snack and Bake Sale and an ice cream sundae fundraiser. In addition, the WPS Charitable Foundation made a $5,000 donation to Stand Down.

The GHA Charity Committee also collected items to donate to Stand Down.

"Stand Down presented us with a list of items that were needed most. We received items such as winter jackets, hats, gloves, scarves, belts, thermal underwear, socks, boots, and shoes."

Barb Van Asten, a User Systems Analyst for WPS Government Health Administrators

WPS is committed to supporting community programs that help military personnel and veterans, but K9s for Warriors has an added bonus.

The collected items will be used for the Stand Down 2017 event, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Salvation Army of Dane County, 3030 Darbo Drive.
